A door, not a safe. Half an inch of solid steel plate in an 11-gauge steel frame, built to turn a room in your house into somewhere you can walk into and lock: a closet, a basement room, or a space your builder frames for the purpose.

American Security (AMSEC) make the ProFit in the USA, and it is ordered the way you would order a door for your house rather than a box for a shelf. It comes in 13 color options, 3 door sizes and 3 hardware colors, and you choose the wall depth kit that matches the wall it will sit in. The construction is modular, which is what lets an installer set it up quickly.

Choosing yours

80"H × 30"W — 810 lbs

Door color — 13 options - the gloss colors are more expensive

A vault door is a large investment, and it is also something you will look at every day. Some people want it to disappear into the wall; others want it to be the first thing a guest notices. The colors are there for either.

Textured colors: White, Spa Blue, Charcoal Gray, Granite, Black

High gloss colors: Onyx, Pearl Essence, Platinum Metallic, Charcoal Metallic, Sapphire Blue, Thermal Blue, Ironside Green, Reign Purple

Hardware finishes: Chrome, brass or black nickel

Wall depth kit

The wall depth kit is the one choice that depends on your house rather than your taste. It is chosen by the thickness of the finished wall the door will sit in, so ask your builder to confirm that figure before you order, and tell us which kit you need when you do. Please note some thicknesses require a special quote.

6"–8", 8"–10", 10"–12", 12-14*

Custom: 14"–16"*, 16"–18"*, 18"–20"*

Made in the USA

A door is only as strong as its wall

A vault door is the strongest part of the room it guards. Hung in an ordinary stud wall with drywall on either side, it stops someone at the door and sends them through the wall beside it. The walls, ceiling and floor need building to match: concrete or block, or studs lined with steel sheet or plywood behind the board. Fire works the same way. DryLight and the seals protect the door; the room is protected only as well as its walls.

That is work for your builder or a safe installer, and it is worth planning the room and the door together, so the opening and the wall depth are right before the door arrives.

Delivery

Because of the size and weight of a vault door, all vault doors are delivered to the nearest freight terminal unless you have a forklift to accept the door at your property. This may be the case as you will likely be hiring a builder to fit the door. Call us to work out the logistics. Please make sure you tell us what wall depth kit you want with your order.

On the maker

American Security are based in Fontana, California, and make everything from home safes to high-security commercial units. The ProFit is their luxury home vault door, made in the USA with the same attention to finish as their safes, and designed so that the people fitting it have an easier job of it. If you need a figure we haven't listed, ask us and we'll put the question to American Security.

Questions

Which wall depth kit do I need?

The one whose range takes in the finished thickness of your wall. Kits run from 6"–8" to 18"–20"; from 12" up they are custom. Tell us which kit you want with your order.

What are the panic lock and emergency release for?

The panic lock lets someone inside lock the door and keep it locked, even if the combination is entered from outside. The emergency release lets anyone accidentally locked in get out.

Is it fire rated?

The DryLight fill and two-stage seals give the door fire resistance; the room's walls decide the rest.
