American Security (AMSEC) JS5517 - External Dimensions - 55"H × 17.75"W × 16"D - 286lbs
A tall, narrow jewelry safe for a dressing room: 55 inches high but under 18 inches wide, so it stands against a wall like a cheval mirror. Inside are five jewelry drawers, two shelves, quilted faux leather, necklace hangers on the door and a motion-sensor light.
It is fire rated for 30 minutes at 1200°F, independently tested, and locks with a backlit electronic keypad and eight 1-inch bolts.
What it holds
Room for a collection of watches and rings in the drawers, the long necklaces hanging untangled on the door, and the clutch bags on the shelf above.

The inside, thought through
Drawers keep small pieces flat and separate; the shelves above take boxed watches and bags; the door carries the necklaces, so long chains hang at full length instead of knotting in a tray.
There is also an electrical access hole in the steel. American Security (AMSEC) drill it so a cord can be run in without drilling the safe yourself.
Delivery and Siting
At 286 lbs it travels by freight and is delivered to the curb by a liftgate truck. The carrier will call ahead to arrange a delivery window, so someone will need to be home. The driver lowers it by liftgate to your curb or the end of your driveway. Freight drivers don't bring deliveries inside, up steps or into the garage.
Two or three people and a stair-climbing hand truck will bring it in; at 55 inches tall it is top-heavy, so take it slowly. A safe this tall and narrow should always be anchored: use the four holes in the base, or a local safe mover can do it for you.
If you'd like it brought inside and positioned, contact us after you order and we'll help you arrange it with a safe mover near you. That service is priced separately.
What this is not
It is not a media safe. The rating protects paper. Hard drives, USB sticks, discs and film need an interior kept below 125°F, and this safe makes no such claim.
It is not water rated. No claim is made. A house fire usually brings a great deal of water from the hoses, so keep papers in sealed bags inside if that matters to you.
It is not a long fire rating. Thirty minutes is the shortest of the common fire ratings; it protects paper through a fire that is caught quickly.
It is not a UL burglary-rated safe. No burglary listing is claimed. Steel, three-way boltwork and a hard plate over the lock make it slow work for a thief, but it is a home safe, not a jeweler's safe.
On the maker
American Security make safes in Fontana, California, from small home units through to high-security commercial safes. The JS series is their jewelry range, fitted out for the dressing room rather than the garage. If you need a figure we haven't listed, ask us and we'll put the question to American Security.
Questions
Will it fit through my door?
Yes. It's 17.75 inches wide, against 30 to 32 inches for a typical interior door.
What is the electrical access hole for?
It is an electrical access hole, drilled through the steel so a cord can be run in. It does not go through the fireboard.
Is the fire rating independent?
Yes. American Security describe it as an independent rating, 30 minutes at 1200°F.
Will it protect hard drives or USB sticks in a fire?
No. It's rated for paper. Digital media needs a safe rated to keep its interior below 125°F.
Does it need bolting down?
Yes. A tall, narrow safe should always be anchored. There are four anchor holes and the hardware is included.
